Bengaluru: A 25-year-old chef died after allegedly being dragged for nearly 150 metres beneath a car following a late-night road-rage dispute near Electronics City in Bengaluru. Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the incident and are searching for the vehicle's owner.
The deceased, Ranjith Kumar Sahu, worked as a cook at a paying guest accommodation in BTM Layout. He had travelled to Electronics City on October 21 to meet friends during the Dasara celebrations.
Argument Escalates Into Fatal Incident
According to police, the incident occurred at around 1.50 am when Sahu and his friends were near a road crossing. A Maruti Swift Dzire allegedly passed dangerously close to the group, prompting the youths to question the car's occupants.
An argument reportedly followed and escalated into a physical confrontation. The occupants allegedly attempted to leave in the vehicle, during which Sahu became trapped beneath the car and was dragged along the road for approximately 150 metres.
He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he later died despite medical treatment.
Three Suspects Arrested
Police have arrested Ajay Rabidas, Sajal Namashudra and Bijon Roy in connection with the case. During questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that they had consumed alcohol before the incident.
Investigators reportedly faced difficulties obtaining clear CCTV footage showing the entire sequence of events. They subsequently used information provided by a local roadside shopkeeper, along with technical evidence, to trace and arrest the suspects.
Search Continues for Vehicle Owner
Police are continuing their search for the car's owner, who is reportedly absconding. Investigators are also reconstructing the sequence of events to establish how the confrontation escalated and determine the circumstances that led to Sahu's death.
Further investigation is underway.
