BRS MLCs Arrested Over Derogatory Remarks Against Telangana Assembly Speaker

<p>Hyderabad: The Saifabad police have registered a case against two Bharat Rashtra Samithi Members of the Legislative Council, T Madhusudhan and N Naveen Kumar Reddy, for allegedly making derogatory and abusive remarks against Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.</p>
<p>Both MLCs were arrested on Tuesday, September 8, after Pollepalli Venkatesham, Officer on Special Duty to the Speaker, filed a formal complaint with the police.</p>
<p>According to the First Information Report, the two MLCs, along with their political associates, had gathered in the security area of the Telangana Legislative Assembly premises at around 9:30 am. The FIR alleges that Madhusudhan and Naveen Kumar Reddy launched a verbal attack against the Speaker in full view of journalists, electronic media personnel, Assembly staff and security personnel. Specifically, Madhusudhan is accused of using abusive and derogatory language against the Speaker, while Naveen Kumar Reddy allegedly questioned who had authorised the Speaker to issue orders.</p>
<p>The complainant stated that the remarks were intended to humiliate and demean the Speaker in a public-view area of the Assembly premises. The FIR also references video recordings and media broadcasts of the incident as evidence.</p>
<p>The police registered crime number 364 of 2026 under Section 152 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and also invoked provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, including Sections 3(1)(r), 3(2)(va) and 3(2)(vii).</p>
<p>The controversy had erupted the previous day when BRS MLC Tata Madhu allegedly stated that BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao was staying away from the Assembly because he did not want to address Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Telangana's first Dalit Speaker, as "sir."</p>
<p>Madhusudhan, also referred to as Tata Madhu, rejected the allegation. He maintained that he holds the Speaker's chair in the highest regard and insisted his remarks were directed at police officials whom he accused of manhandling him at the Assembly gate. He claimed that an officer grabbed him by the throat, pulled at his trousers and stepped on him with a boot, causing his spectacles to fall off, and that his comments came as he tried to free himself.</p>
<p>Saifabad Inspector K Nageswara Rao registered the case and is leading the investigation. Police are expected to review available video footage and witness statements as the probe proceeds.</p>
