A large Ganesha idol being transported from Dhoolpet to Siddipet was damaged after a speeding lorry rammed into the truck carrying it near Gajwel Ring Road in the early hours of Thursday.
According to police, the truck had come to a halt because a signboard was blocking its path. The driver had stopped to get the signboard removed before continuing to his destination. At that point, a lorry driver, allegedly being negligent, failed to stop in time and crashed into the stationary truck, causing the idol to fall off and sustain damage.
The truck driver suffered minor injuries in the collision. A car travelling behind the lorry also rammed into it in the impact.
Gajwel police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
