Hyderabad: CP Sajjanar Warns Against Birthday Celebrations at Tank Bund

Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar on Friday, October 9, appealed to the public to stop holding birthday celebrations at Tank Bund, warning that negligence and impulsive behaviour in public spaces can lead to tragic consequences.

His appeal comes after a recent accident at Tank Bund claimed the lives of a six-year-old girl and her uncle while they were celebrating her birthday.

Sajjanar said police personnel rushed to the scene after receiving information about the accident and shifted the injured to a hospital in an attempt to save them. However, their efforts were unsuccessful.

Following the incident, the Commissioner inspected the accident site along with senior police officials to identify measures to prevent similar tragedies. He said a comprehensive review had also been conducted with various government departments to strengthen accident-prevention measures at the location.

The Commissioner emphasised that birthdays should be celebrated at home or in other safe places rather than at locations where such gatherings could pose risks to people.

He reiterated that birthday celebrations at Tank Bund are prohibited under existing rules and pointed out that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had issued clear orders on the matter.

According to Sajjanar, police personnel have been regularly asking people to leave the area, but some return around midnight to hold celebrations, creating the risk of further accidents.

He urged residents to follow the rules and prioritise the safety of their families and others while celebrating special occasions.
