Hyderabad: The Telangana Eagle Force has facilitated the admission of nine minors, aged between 14 and 17 years, to de-addiction centres after their parents sought assistance through the force's toll-free helpline 1908.
Officials said the initiative was aimed at helping minors struggling with drug abuse and supporting their families in accessing appropriate treatment and counselling.
In a Cyberabad case, six minors and two adults reportedly tested positive for narcotics during screening. Police arrested an alleged drug peddler, identified as N Tushal, 21, in connection with the case.
Cases were registered at Jeedimetla and Sanathnagar police stations under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act.
In a separate case from Wanaparthy, a minor tested negative for narcotics. However, officials counselled the child along with the parents as a precautionary measure.
Eagle Force officials urged parents and families to seek help when they notice signs of drug abuse among children. They also called for stigma surrounding substance abuse to be addressed so that affected minors can receive timely counselling and treatment.
