Hyderabad: Police raided Zoya Convention in Barkas, Hyderabad’s Old City, on Wednesday night, October 14, following complaints that the premises were allegedly operating as a restaurant under the guise of a function hall and serving food late into the night.
Rajendranagar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) S. Sreenivas inspected the establishment near the Government Hospital in Barkas after receiving complaints about its operating hours.
During the inspection, officials noticed decorative serial lights that gave the premises the appearance of a function hall. However, police said a closer examination indicated that the establishment was functioning as a restaurant and serving biryani throughout the night.
The police also found a menu card listing a plate of food at Rs 240, which officials cited as an indication that the premises were being used for regular food sales rather than exclusively for functions.
Restaurant Temporarily Shut
Following the inspection, police temporarily closed the establishment for the night and initiated steps towards possible legal action against its management.
Officials are examining whether the business was operating in accordance with the required permissions and applicable regulations. Further action will depend on the findings of the inspection and the documents submitted by the management.
DCP S. Sreenivas said authorities would take appropriate action based on the investigation.
The inspection follows complaints from local residents about the establishment’s late-night operations. Police are examining whether the premises were being used in accordance with the permissions granted for the business.
