Hyderabad: Six Suspected ‘Chaddi Gang’ Members Rob Manikonda Flat

Hyderabad: Six suspected members of a group commonly referred to as the ‘chaddi gang’ allegedly broke into a residential flat at Flotilla Apartments in Manikonda during the early hours of Sunday.

According to the information available, the suspects entered the apartment premises at around 3:20 am after allegedly cutting through fencing on the lakeside. They then reportedly forced their way into a flat and stole valuables.

During the incident, a woman reportedly attempted to stop the suspects. The group allegedly tried to attack her with weapons before fleeing the premises.

The incident has raised concerns among residents, particularly over security at residential properties located near open or isolated areas.

What is the ‘chaddi gang’?

The term ‘chaddi gang’ is commonly used by police and media reports to describe burglary groups whose members have been reported to wear minimal clothing and cover their faces while committing crimes. The term does not necessarily refer to a single organised gang, as different burglary groups in various parts of India have reportedly used similar methods.

Police in Hyderabad and Cyberabad have previously reported cases involving burglary groups that allegedly conduct surveillance of houses during the day before targeting properties at night. Houses located near open or isolated areas have reportedly been among their targets.

In some cases, such groups have also been reported to move between cities after carrying out multiple burglaries. Their methods can vary, and some members have allegedly carried weapons and confronted or attacked residents who attempted to resist them.

Further details regarding the investigation and identification of the suspects were not immediately available.
