IMD Predicts Heavy Rain for Telangana, Health Advisory Issued

Hyderabad: Telangana is set for another wet week as the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, has predicted continuous light to moderate rainfall across the state. A heavy to very heavy rainfall alert is currently active for the next 24 hours.

T Balaji, who goes by the handle 'Telangana Weatherman' on X, shared his forecast on Saturday, September 12, saying scattered moderate to intense rains would continue across Mulugu, Bhupalapally, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Khammam, Adilabad and Asifabad.

He also predicted fresh moderate to intense rains moving across Nirmal and further into parts of Jagitial and Nizamabad. Scattered moderate rains are expected across Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool (Kalwakurthy), Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet, Sangareddy, Medak and Siddipet.

Alongside the rain outlook, the state Director of Public Health and Family Welfare issued an advisory on the same day, cautioning that the prevailing weather pattern, which is expected to bring lower temperatures and higher humidity, could trigger a rise in seasonal illnesses. Officials specifically flagged vector-borne, waterborne and airborne diseases as key concerns.

To guard against mosquito-borne illnesses, the advisory recommends securing doors and windows with mosquito nets or screens, maintaining domestic drains to prevent stagnant water, and covering septic tanks with a mesh.

For waterborne infections, residents are advised to use filtered water for drinking, wash hands frequently and avoid eating out.

On airborne infections such as viral fevers and influenza, the advisory urges people to maintain distance from anyone who is unwell, use hand sanitisers regularly, cover sneezes and coughs with a handkerchief, and consult a doctor at the first sign of flu-like symptoms.
