27 Lost their life as Russian Drone Hits Warehouse Near Kyiv, Sparking Massive Blaze

At least 27 people lost their life after a Russian drone struck a warehouse in the town of Myla near Kyiv's western suburbs overnight on 28 August, triggering a massive fire and a series of explosions, Ukrainian authorities said on Saturday.

Kyiv region governor Tymur Tkachenko confirmed the toll in a statement. "Unfortunately, as things stand, 27 people are known to have passed away. And this figure may not be final," he said. Among those who lost their life was Taras Didych, the mayor of the village of Dmytrivska.

A large column of black smoke was seen rising over the capital's western suburbs, with the facility still on fire at the time officials spoke to reporters.
Ukraine's prosecutor general's office said an unmanned aerial vehicle struck the grounds of an enterprise in Myla at around 8:10 pm local time (1710 GMT), setting off a large-scale fire and detonations on the premises.

Ukrainian prosecutors announced they had opened a criminal investigation. The probe will focus on "the legality of the storage of explosive objects and materials on the enterprise's grounds", as well as whether the company, which was not named, held the necessary permits and approvals. Officials confirmed the warehouse appeared to have been storing explosive objects, though they did not specify the nature of the facility further.
Both Russia and Ukraine have intensified long-range strikes on each other in recent months, pushing civilian casualties to record levels.
