Hyderabad: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) seized Rs 2.4 lakh in unaccounted cash from Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) Joint Director A Srinivas on Saturday, October 24.
According to the ACB, the operation followed information from an anonymous caller alleging that a senior HMWSSB official was carrying cash suspected to have been illegally collected at his office while travelling home.
Acting on the information, ACB officials intercepted Srinivas's car opposite Metro Residency Apartments on Raj Bhavan Road in Hyderabad.
During the inspection, officials found Rs 2.4 lakh in cash in his possession. The ACB said Srinivas was questioned about why he was carrying the money while returning from work but failed to provide a satisfactory explanation. Officials also reported that he gave inconsistent responses.
Cash seized for further verification
The ACB seized the unaccounted cash under a panchanama, a formal record of the seizure, for further verification.
According to the bureau, the seizure was intended to examine the possible corruption angle and determine whether further action was warranted. The ACB also said the matter would be brought to the attention of the Income Tax Department.
The seizure followed an allegation received by the bureau, and the circumstances surrounding the source of the money remain subject to verification. Further action will depend on the outcome of the inquiry.
