Adilabad: Former MLC Sathyavathi Rathod on Wednesday alleged that the Congress government was neglecting the medical and health sector and demanded stronger measures to improve healthcare facilities in Telangana.
Rathod, accompanied by former minister Jogu Ramanna, MLAs Kova Laxmi and Anil Jadhav, visited the Special Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Adilabad, following the recent incident involving infants at the hospital.
Rathod said the RIMS-Adilabad incident had raised concerns across Telangana and urged the government to treat it as a wake-up call for strengthening the state's medical infrastructure and services.
She demanded compensation of Rs 25 lakh for each victim and Rs 10 lakh for the injured baby. She also called on the government to bear the medical expenses of infants who were shifted to private hospitals for treatment following the incident.
Rathod said the BRS had announced compensation of Rs 1 lakh for each victim and assured the affected families of the party's support.
She also highlighted healthcare initiatives implemented during the previous BRS government, including the establishment of Basthi Dawakhanas and the introduction of diagnostic services for economically weaker sections.
According to Rathod, around 170 types of diagnostic services were introduced to improve access to healthcare for poorer sections of society. She also credited the previous government with establishing medical and nursing colleges across districts.
BRS Khanapur Assembly constituency in-charge Johnson Naik, former ZP chairperson Uma and other party leaders were present during the visit.
