Akasa Air Extends Saudi Arabia Flight Suspensions Amid Security Concerns

New Delhi: Akasa Air has extended the suspension of its flights to and from Jeddah until November 10 and Riyadh until November 30, citing the prevailing security situation in Saudi Arabia.

In a statement posted on X on Friday, October 23, the Indian airline said the decision followed a careful assessment of the security environment and passenger safety considerations.

The airline said it would continue monitoring developments and reassessing the situation in real time.

Refund and Rescheduling Options for Passengers

Passengers affected by the extended suspensions can choose between a full refund to their original payment method, which the airline says will be processed within seven days, or rescheduling their journeys without additional charges.

Customers who booked tickets through travel agents or other travel partners have been advised to contact them directly for assistance with refunds and rescheduling.

Security Incidents in Saudi Arabia

The extension comes amid reports of attacks targeting locations in Saudi Arabia, including airports and energy infrastructure.

According to the information provided in the report, an attack at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam on Wednesday, October 21, killed an Indian national and injured two others. Another Indian national was reportedly injured in a separate incident at Saudi Aramco's Shaybah oilfield on the same day.

An earlier incident at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on October 10 reportedly killed an Indian national and injured several others. The incident prompted the Indian embassy to issue safety advisories for the Indian community in Saudi Arabia.

The reported incidents have raised security concerns around critical infrastructure, including airports and energy facilities. Saudi Arabia has faced attacks involving drones and missiles amid regional tensions, including a prolonged campaign by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi movement.

Airline Continues to Monitor Developments

Akasa Air has said the suspension will remain in place until the specified dates while it continues to assess the security situation.

Passengers planning to travel to or from Saudi Arabia are advised to check the latest flight updates directly with the airline before leaving for the airport.
