Asian Games 2026: India Wins Women’s 4x400m Relay Gold in Nagoya

Nagoya: India’s women’s 4x400m relay team won the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya on Tuesday, delivering the country’s first track and field gold of the ongoing Games.

The Indian quartet of Kiran Pahal, Poovamma Machettira, Prachi and Vithya Ramraj clocked 3:29.69 to finish first. Bahrain won the silver medal, while China took bronze.

India also added several other athletics medals during the day.

Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur, Sneha Sathyanarayana and Harita Bhadra won bronze in the 4x100m mixed relay final with a season-best time of 41.06 seconds. China won gold in 40.78 seconds, while Thailand secured silver in 40.87 seconds.

Pooja Singh won bronze in the women’s high jump after clearing 1.84 metres. Although the effort was below her personal best, it was enough to secure a place on the podium.

Gulveer Singh also continued his medal-winning run by claiming bronze in the men’s 5000m with a time of 13:32.75. The result gave him three medals at the Games after he had earlier won silver in the men’s 1500m and 10,000m events.

Gulveer became the second Indian man and fourth Indian athlete to win three track and field medals at a single edition of the Asian Games. Before him, Lavy Pinto won three medals at the 1951 New Delhi Asian Games, PT Usha won four at Seoul 1986, and KM Beenamol won three at Busan 2002.

India’s Dev Kumar Meena set a national record in the men’s pole vault by clearing 5.50 metres but finished seventh. Pooja Olla and Mohammed Afsal also finished seventh and eighth respectively in the women’s and men’s 800m events.
