Hyderabad: Two mothers and three young children were injured after chunks of plaster fell from the ceiling of an Anganwadi centre in Ankusapur-Teliguda village of Asifabad mandal in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around noon while children were having their midday meal at the centre. The sudden fall of plaster reportedly frightened the children, who screamed and rushed outside the building.
The two mothers, identified as Bavune Soni and Podori Sandhyarani, suffered head injuries in the incident. Three children also sustained injuries — four-year-old Bavune Niharika suffered an injury to her leg, five-year-old Kawalkar Sainath sustained a head injury, and three-year-old Satvika was injured on her hand.
Locals immediately shifted all five injured persons to the Asifabad government hospital. Doctors said they were receiving treatment and were out of danger. The children's injuries were described as minor.
The district Collector visited the hospital after being informed about the incident and enquired about the condition of the injured children and their mothers.
Officials have initiated relief measures and are looking into the circumstances that led to the ceiling plaster falling, according to reports.
Residents have urged authorities to conduct a thorough inspection of the Anganwadi building and take necessary measures to ensure the safety of children and staff. The quick evacuation of the children after the plaster began falling is believed to have prevented a more serious incident.
