Dubai: Bathukamma celebrations organised by the local Telangana NRI organisation ETCA drew a large gathering of Telangana expatriates in Dubai on Sunday, with families travelling from different emirates to participate in the annual floral festival.
Women dressed in traditional attire assembled at the venue to arrange Bathukamma flower stacks, sing devotional songs in praise of Goddess Gouramma and take part in traditional dances. The celebrations highlighted Telangana’s cultural traditions among the expatriate community.
Slogans Supporting KCR Echo at Event
The gathering also reflected the political support expressed by some attendees for Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.
Slogans of “Saaru Kavaali, Kaaru Ravaali”, expressing support for KCR’s return to power, were raised during the programme.
Several BRS leaders from the Nizamabad parliamentary constituency travelled to Dubai for the event. MLAs Vemula Prashant Reddy and K. Sanjay, along with former MLA A. Jeevan Reddy, joined participants in dancing on stage.
Jeevan Reddy also walked through the venue playing a traditional drum alongside a cultural troupe. Addressing the gathering, he remarked that the large turnout made him wonder whether he was at a stadium in Hyderabad or at an event in Dubai.
KTR's Absence Draws Attention
BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao had been widely advertised as the chief guest, and his anticipated presence may have contributed to interest in the event, according to observers cited in the report.
However, KTR did not attend the celebrations. Some supporters had arrived carrying his portraits alongside Bathukamma flowers.
The large crowd also reportedly made it difficult for some visiting BRS leaders to enter the hall.
Indian Consul General Attends
Indian Consul General in Dubai Dr E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy attended the celebrations as a special guest.
The event brought together Telangana expatriates to celebrate Bathukamma while also featuring expressions of cultural identity and political support among sections of the gathering.
