Eluru: Around 30 students were injured and one person was killed after a school bus overturned following a collision with a motorcycle near Vadlamanu in Agiripalli mandal of Eluru district.
The school bus was travelling from Agiripalli towards Nuzvid when the driver reportedly attempted to overtake an autorickshaw. During the manoeuvre, the bus collided head-on with an approaching two-wheeler.
Following the collision, the bus veered off the road, entered a nearby canal and overturned.
Two people were travelling on the motorcycle. One of them died at the scene, while the other suffered serious injuries and was reported to be in critical condition.
Local residents rushed to the accident site after the bus overturned and helped evacuate the students. The injured children were shifted to Nuzvid Government Hospital for treatment.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and moved the critically injured motorcyclist to the hospital. The body of the deceased was also shifted to the government hospital for postmortem examination.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
