Gandhi Hospital Team Saves Mother and Baby in Rare Wounded Disorder Delivery

<p>A multidisciplinary team of specialists at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad has successfully managed the high-risk childbirth of a 21-year-old woman living with congenital Factor VII deficiency, an extremely rare inherited wounded disorder that affects only one in every 500,000 individuals.</p>
<p>Yadla Laxmi, a resident of Dharmapur village in Penpahad mandal of Suryapet district, was admitted to the hospital on August 21 at 37 weeks and six days of gestation. She is a known case of congenital Factor VII deficiency, a condition caused by a shortage or dysfunction of the severe injuries-clotting protein Factor VII, which puts patients at heightened risk of abnormal and potentially life-threatening wounded.</p>
<p>Gandhi Hospital Superintendent Dr T. Usha Rani said managing pregnancy and delivery in women with this condition carries a serious risk of haemorrhage that can quickly become life-threatening. Multiple specialist teams across departments coordinated closely to handle the complicated case.</p>
<p>To ensure a safe outcome, doctors administered 65 vials of recombinant Factor VII, which were specially procured through the Commissioner of Family Welfare. The meticulous planning paid off on Friday, September 11, when Laxmi safely delivered a healthy baby girl at around 6.15 pm. The newborn weighed 2 kg at birth.</p>
<p>Following the delivery, both the mother and her baby are doing well, the hospital confirmed.</p>
