Rajkot: A 20-year-old engineering student allegedly died by suicide after jumping from a building on the Marwadi University campus in Gujarat’s Rajkot district on Friday morning, police said.
The deceased, identified as Hemanth, was a native of Andhra Pradesh and a fifth-semester student of Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning).
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-1) Hetal Patel, the student had reportedly been distressed over health-related issues. Police said he had undergone several surgeries recently and had told his hostel roommate that he did not want to continue living if his health problems persisted.
Hemanth allegedly jumped from a building on the university campus on Friday morning. Police said no suicide note was found.
The Kuvadava police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining the circumstances surrounding the student's death.
The incident comes six days after the death of another student from the same university. On September 19, 19-year-old Alla Venkata Soubhagya Varshitha, a third-semester student of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science from Andhra Pradesh, allegedly died after jumping from the 10th floor of a hostel building.
Police are investigating both incidents separately. The circumstances surrounding Hemanth's death, including his reported health concerns, are being examined as part of the ongoing probe.
