Iran-backed Houthi forces launched a wave of attacks on southern Saudi Arabia, wounding 73 people including women and children, Saudi authorities confirmed.

The strikes targeted civilian and economic facilities across four cities, Abha, Jazan, Najran and Khamis Mushait. Fires broke out at several oil facilities and utilities following the attacks, and operations at some facilities were temporarily suspended.

Saudi Arabia condemned the strikes as a serious escalation and a direct violation of its sovereignty.

The renewed hostilities come after clashes shattered a four-year truce in Yemen, raising fresh fears of a wider regional conflict. The Houthis, who are backed by Iran, have carried out repeated cross-border strikes into Saudi territory over the course of the Yemen conflict.
