Hyderabad: A 38-year-old auto driver was arrested by the Commissioner’s Task Force, Charminar Zone team, on Saturday, October 31, for allegedly peddling ganja in Hyderabad. Police seized approximately 1.94 kg of the drug, estimated to be worth Rs 1 lakh.
The accused has been identified as Shaik Asif, a resident of New Indira Nagar in Bandlaguda.
According to police, Asif was allegedly addicted to ganja and found his earnings as an auto driver insufficient to meet his expenses. He reportedly turned to drug peddling to make money quickly and began procuring ganja from Nagpur for sale in Hyderabad.
Police said Asif travelled to Nagpur on October 28 and purchased around 2 kg of ganja for Rs 10,000 before returning to Hyderabad.
On Saturday, he was allegedly waiting for customers near Bandlaguda X Roads when the Task Force team apprehended him and seized the contraband.
Further investigation is underway to establish the source of the ganja and identify any other persons linked to the alleged supply network.
