Hyderabad: The Telangana government has expanded its instant pension facility to cover the wives of deceased pensioners belonging to several additional beneficiary categories, extending social security support to more families.
The expanded facility will benefit wives of deceased pensioners who received pensions as persons with disabilities, toddy tappers, weavers, dialysis patients and individuals affected by HIV and filariasis.
Previously, the instant pension facility was available only to the wives of deceased old-age pensioners. The Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department, headed by Minister Danasari Anasuya, has issued orders extending the benefit to the additional categories.
Pension eligibility based on age
Under the revised guidelines, the age of the deceased pensioner's wife will determine the type of pension she can receive.
Below 57 years: Eligible for a widow pension.
57 years and above: Eligible for an old-age pension.
The expansion is intended to ensure that eligible widows do not have to wait for a prolonged period to receive financial assistance after the death of their pensioner husbands.
Documents required to apply
Applicants must submit the following documents to access the facility:
Applicant's Aadhaar card.
First page of the applicant's bank passbook.
Aadhaar card of the deceased pensioner.
Death certificate of the deceased pensioner.
Where to submit applications
In rural areas, applications must be submitted to the respective panchayat secretary. In urban areas, applicants should approach the concerned bill collector.
Officials will verify the submitted documents and enter the applicant's details into the Cheyutha portal. The pension will be sanctioned after the authorities confirm that the applicant meets the eligibility requirements.
The expanded facility is expected to provide quicker access to social security pensions for eligible widows across Telangana.
