Hyderabad: Ganesh idol immersion continued late into Sunday night as large crowds gathered around Hussain Sagar and several parts of the city witnessed heavy traffic during the ongoing Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
Hundreds of idols reached the Hussain Sagar immersion points over the weekend, ranging from small household idols carried on two-wheelers to large idols transported on decorated trucks from various parts of the city.
The immersion activity began on Saturday and continued into Sunday night, with authorities making arrangements around Hussain Sagar, its surrounding areas and designated baby ponds to manage the large number of devotees and vehicles.
Expert swimmers, lifeguards and disaster response teams were deployed at high-density locations around the lake as a precaution. Heavy cranes and multi-level barricades were also positioned along the shoreline to support immersion operations and help maintain safety.
Traffic congestion was reported around several key areas, including Khairatabad, NTR Marg, People’s Plaza, the Secretariat and Tank Bund, as trucks carrying Ganesh idols moved towards immersion points.
Meanwhile, more than one lakh devotees visited the Khairatabad Ganesh pandal between 10 am and 9 pm on Sunday. Footfall increased steadily throughout the day as devotees gathered for darshan before the immersion festivities continued.
