Bihar: Three Arrested After Minor Boy, Girl Harassed in Jamui

Patna: Three people have been arrested after a video showing the alleged harassment of a minor boy and girl on a roadside in Bihar’s Jamui district triggered widespread outrage on social media.

The incident reportedly took place on the evening of September 19, when the two Class 10 students were returning after attending coaching classes. According to police and reports, a group stopped the two-wheeler they were travelling on and allegedly subjected the teenagers to harassment and assault.

Videos of the incident circulated widely on social media, prompting the Jamui Police to take cognisance of the matter and trace the victims. Police said the victims were identified with the help of the registration number of a vehicle visible in the footage.

Jamui Superintendent of Police Bishwajeet Dayal said police had identified around seven people allegedly involved in the incident. An FIR was registered, and three suspects were subsequently arrested, while efforts were continuing to trace others.

Police have said the two teenagers were friends and attended the same coaching institute. Officials have not disclosed further details about the minors in order to protect their privacy.

The incident has drawn condemnation from political parties and leaders. Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi described the incident as disturbing and called for action against those responsible. Other opposition parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party and Trinamool Congress, also criticised the alleged incident and demanded legal action.

The political comments and demands for action are separate from the police investigation. The case remains under investigation, with authorities working to establish the full circumstances and identify all those allegedly involved.
