Hyderabad: Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) Chairman and Managing Director Jitesh V. Patil inspected the Jeedimetla Smart Grid pilot project at Apurupa Colony in Shapur Nagar on Monday, October 26, to review the functioning of smart meters and the automated electricity distribution system.
During the visit, Patil interacted with consumers to understand their experiences with smart meters, the billing process and the benefits of the technology.
He said the objective of installing smart meters was to improve billing transparency and electricity services rather than increase revenue. The technology is intended to help consumers track their daily power consumption, understand usage patterns and identify opportunities to conserve electricity.
Smart Grid to Help Improve Power Supply
Patil said the smart grid automation system would help electricity officials identify supply interruptions more quickly and take timely action to restore power.
The system is aimed at improving the reliability of electricity distribution by enabling faster identification of faults and more efficient monitoring of the network.
Smart meters are also expected to give consumers better visibility into their electricity usage, helping them make informed decisions about consumption.
Mobile Application Planned for November
TGSPDCL plans to introduce a dedicated mobile application in November 2026 to improve consumer access to electricity-related information.
According to the information provided by the utility, the application is expected to offer:
Daily electricity consumption details
Estimated electricity bills
Historical power consumption records
The proposed features would allow consumers to monitor their usage through their mobile phones and better understand their electricity expenses.
Focus on Transparent Billing and Digital Services
The Jeedimetla Smart Grid pilot project is part of efforts to strengthen electricity distribution through technology and improve consumer services.
By combining smart meters, automated monitoring and digital access to consumption data, TGSPDCL aims to make electricity billing more transparent and help officials respond to supply disruptions more efficiently.
The planned mobile application is expected to provide consumers with an additional channel to monitor their electricity usage. Further details about its launch and availability are awaited.
