Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) carried out an enforcement drive in Pet Basheerabad on Friday, reclaiming 1.30 acres of government land estimated to be worth more than ₹100 crore. The operation was conducted after authorities found that the land remained under unauthorized occupation despite earlier notices.
According to officials, the recovered land forms part of a 38.15-acre government property managed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). The larger parcel had previously been allotted to the Journalists' Housing Society, and HYDRAA had already secured most of the area to prevent illegal encroachments.
Authorities said the remaining 1.30-acre portion had been occupied and used as a playground by the management of a private school. Earlier, the school had requested additional time until the completion of the academic year to vacate the land. However, after the agreed period ended and the site remained occupied, HYDRAA initiated action to reclaim the property.
During the operation, officials demolished the compound wall surrounding the occupied area, erected new fencing around the reclaimed land, and installed signboards identifying it as government property. The enforcement drive was carried out under official supervision to ensure the land was secured against future encroachments.
Officials estimate that the reclaimed land has a market value exceeding ₹100 crore, highlighting the significance of the operation in protecting valuable public assets. The agency stated that such drives are part of its ongoing efforts to recover government land that has been illegally occupied across Hyderabad and surrounding districts.
HYDRAA has intensified its campaign against land encroachments in recent months, working alongside revenue and local authorities to identify government properties, remove unauthorized structures, and secure public land through fencing and official markings. Officials have reiterated that action will continue wherever illegal occupation of government land is detected.
