Medak: Two Arrested for Posing as Maoists to Gain Social Media Fame

Medak: Two 23-year-old men have been arrested for allegedly posing as Maoists and placing threat letters at a police station and municipal office in Toopran in an attempt to gain attention on social media.

The accused were identified as Banda Madhu and Chintakindi Sridhar, residents of Nagulapalli village.

According to police, the two had allegedly attempted a similar stunt earlier this year in Medaram when Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was visiting the area. However, the attempt reportedly failed to attract the attention they were seeking.

Threat letters left at police station

Police said that during the intervening night of September 21 and 22, Madhu allegedly entered Toopran Police Station wearing a mask and left a red cloth containing a threat letter on the reception desk.

Sridhar allegedly remained outside the police station on a motorcycle.

The letters were reportedly issued in the name of Maoists and carried sickle-and-hammer symbols. They condemned the death sentences recently awarded to 10 Maoists by a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, in connection with the 2013 Jhiram Ghati attack.

A similar letter was allegedly left at the Toopran municipal office.

According to the investigation, the threat letters were generated using artificial intelligence. The accused allegedly prepared three copies after making modifications to the content.

Police subsequently traced the suspects and arrested Madhu and Sridhar on Thursday, September 24, near Nagulapalli Bridge.

The two were taken into custody as police continued investigating their alleged motive and the circumstances surrounding the preparation and placement of the letters.
