Milk Tanker Rams Scooter in Karnataka, Family of Three Loses Their Life

<p>Three members of a family, including a nine-year-old girl, lost their life after a milk tanker struck their scooter from behind in Karnataka's Mandya district early Tuesday morning, police said.</p>
<p>The victims were identified as Muthuraj, his wife Kavya, and their younger daughter Kirthana, aged nine. The family were residents of Koppa and belonged to a household based in Bengaluru South district.</p>
<p>The incident took place between 5.30 am and 6 am within the Koppa police station limits of Maddur taluk. According to police, the family was travelling towards Bengaluru after attending the Gauri Ganesha festival at Kavya's parents' home.</p>
<p>CCTV footage shows Kavya riding pillion with Muthuraj, along with their two daughters, when the milk tanker struck the two-wheeler from behind. The impact caused the family to fall onto the road. Muthuraj and Kirthana passed away at the spot, police said.</p>
<p>Kavya sustained serious injuries in the collision and was shifted to hospital for treatment. She later passed away from her injuries. The couple's 12-year-old daughter survived the crash without suffering any major injuries, according to a senior police officer.</p>
<p>The tanker driver fled the scene following the collision but was later traced and detained by police, who also seized the vehicle. He is currently being questioned as investigators seek to determine how the collision occurred and what took place immediately after. Whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of driving has not been confirmed by police.</p>
<p>Mandya Superintendent of Police Shobharani visited the mortuary at Mandya MIMS Hospital following the incident. Personnel from Koppa police station conducted a spot inspection after reaching the scene.</p>
<p>Police have registered a case and are examining available evidence, including the CCTV footage that recorded the crash. Investigators are working to establish the exact sequence of events leading to the fatal collision and determine the tanker driver's role. Further action will follow based on the findings of the ongoing probe.</p>
