Muscat: Oman has announced a temporary shipping corridor in the Strait of Hormuz to help commercial vessels move safely through one of the world's busiest maritime routes.
The initiative was introduced to improve navigation and reduce disruptions to shipping activities in the region. Omani authorities said the temporary route will provide additional support for vessels passing through the strategically important waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key gateway for global energy supplies and international trade, connecting the Gulf region to major markets around the world. Millions of barrels of oil and large volumes of liquefied natural gas are transported through the passage every day.
Officials said ships using the temporary corridor will be required to follow specific navigation guidelines and coordinate with maritime authorities to ensure safe and efficient transit.
The move comes as regional shipping operators continue to monitor security and operational challenges in the area. Industry experts believe the temporary corridor could help improve vessel movement and strengthen confidence among shipping companies using the route.
Oman stated that the measure is aimed at supporting uninterrupted maritime trade while maintaining safety standards in one of the world's most important shipping lanes.
