RS Praveen Kumar Questions Telangana MPs Over Salary, Allowances and Public Responsibilities

Hyderabad: BRS leader and party general secretary RS Praveen Kumar questioned Telangana MPs over their responsibilities towards the public and the benefits and facilities available to Members of Parliament.

In a statement, Praveen Kumar referred to the financial support and facilities provided to MPs and asked what they were doing to address issues affecting people in their constituencies.

He also alleged that some MPs were visiting private individuals' lands instead of focusing on public problems. Referring to remarks attributed to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Praveen Kumar questioned the role MPs should play in representing public interests.

However, the figures cited in the statement require clarification. The ₹5 crore annual amount under MPLADS is a constituency development fund entitlement, not the personal salary of an MP. Under the scheme, MPs recommend eligible development works, while the concerned district authority is responsible for implementing them.

Parliamentary rules also provide MPs with salary and various allowances and facilities, including constituency-related allowances, office expenses, travel and daily allowances, accommodation and other provisions.

Praveen Kumar asked MPs to explain how they are using their positions to raise public issues and address problems faced by people in their constituencies.

His remarks come amid political criticism in Telangana over the role and activities of elected representatives.
