Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao was detained outside the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday, September 7, while leading a protest over the state government's failure to clear pending fee reimbursement dues for students.
As police took Rao away, BJP leaders raised slogans of "CM Down Down" and "Idhemi Rajyam? Idhemi Rajyam? Dongala Rajyam, Dopidi Rajyam!" which translates to: "What kind of governance is this? It is a kingdom of thieves, a kingdom of looters."
Rao has been raising the fee reimbursement issue consistently over the past two weeks. On August 25, he launched a 48-hour hunger strike demanding the immediate release of pending dues for students across Telangana. The protest began at the Telangana BJP headquarters in Hyderabad after police refused permission to hold the strike at Dharna Chowk.
The party has been running its agitation under the banner 'Feesula Bakayi, BJP Ladayi', demanding the state government release Rs 15,000 crore in pending fee reimbursement dues.
Addressing supporters at the hunger strike camp, Rao accused the Congress government of deliberately failing to clear the amounts. He said the delay was making it difficult for students to obtain their certificates, pursue higher education, and access job opportunities.
Rao claimed the unresolved dues could affect nearly 40 lakh students in Telangana and stated that the BJP would not halt its protest until the government released the pending payments.
