UCC in All 21 NDA States Before 2029, Says Amit Shah

<p>Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said BJP-led NDA governments in all 21 states they govern will introduce the Uniform Civil Code before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. He made the remarks in Mumbai while speaking to reporters about the Centre's achievements over the last 12 years and the BJP's 25-year journey under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.</p>
<p>"Triple talaq has been abolished, giving Muslim women equal rights. We have introduced the Uniform Civil Code in several states, and I am confident that in the 21 BJP-NDA-ruled states, we will introduce the UCC before 2029," Shah said.</p>
<p>On criminal justice reform, Shah said the government had strengthened the system through the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He claimed several states had recorded a 30 per cent increase in conviction rates in a single year and said a system was being set up to ensure justice is delivered within three years.</p>
<p>Speaking on national security, Shah said the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A was achieved without a single drop of severe injuries being shed or a bullet being fired, asserting that Kashmir is now fully integrated with India. He also said the government had ended five decades of Naxalism and signed more than 14 peace agreements in the North-East region.</p>
<p>"More than 9,000 people have surrendered, and today we have taken the Northeast on the path of development," he said. Shah added that surgical strikes, air strikes and Operation Sindoor had established a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism.</p>
<p>Asked whether the 1951 baseline would be used for implementing the National Register of Citizens in Manipur, Shah said the Centre was in discussions with its allies and political parties in the state. "Whatever decision is taken, we will inform you," he said.</p>
<p>On the question of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators and their detection in cities including Mumbai, Shah declined to reveal the tools used by the government. "You are asking the Home Minister to make the tools public and tell you how it will be done. Then how will we catch them? They will also come to know," he said. He reiterated the government's resolve to identify and deport every illegal infiltrator from the country.</p>
<p>On the government's campaign against illegal substances, Shah said he had recently launched the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and would visit every state as part of the initiative. He said a full-day meeting would be held after consultations with a chief minister to ensure the campaign reaches grassroots level. "It will definitely reach the grassroots, and India will achieve victory over drugs," he said.</p>
