Visakhapatnam: A survey in Andhra Pradesh’s Parvathipuram Manyam district has identified 192 schools across 14 mandals with unsafe structures, including 351 dilapidated classrooms that have been marked for demolition.
During a video conference on Wednesday, district collector Dr N. Prabhakar Reddy reviewed the survey findings and said student safety remained the government’s top priority.
The Collector directed engineering officials to identify buildings that pose a danger to students and demolish them in accordance with prescribed regulations. He set September 30 as the deadline for completing the demolition process.
The district education officer presented details about the condition of the identified school buildings and highlighted the need to replace unsafe structures with secure facilities to ensure a safe learning environment for students.
Prabhakar Reddy stressed the importance of coordination among various government departments to complete the work within the deadline and prevent risks to children attending the affected schools.
Officials from several departments participated in the review meeting, including ITDA project officers R. Vaishali and Power Swapnil Jagannadh, district education officer Brahmaji, Samagra Shiksha APC, DPREO, and engineering officials from Panchayat Raj, Roads and Buildings, Tribal Welfare, Rural Water Supply and APEWIDC departments.
District Mandal Education Officers (MEOs) also participated in the meeting.
