Hyderabad: Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TGSAFE) officials conducted a raid at Bahar Biryani Cafe in Dilsukhnagar on Wednesday, September 16, and seized 50 kg of allegedly rotten chicken and meat.
During the inspection, officials also collected samples of chicken, mutton and prawns, along with other food items, for laboratory testing. Based on the inspection findings, TGSAFE officials recommended the suspension of the cafe’s Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence.
The action was taken as part of food safety inspections aimed at checking the quality and storage practices followed by eateries in Hyderabad.
Speaking to Siasat.com, Bahar Biryani Cafe manager Mitchel D’Souza said TGSAFE officials informed him that the seized food material had not been maintained properly. He said officials also warned the management against repeating such practices.
D’Souza said the exact violations would become clear once TGSAFE issues its inspection and testing report.
The samples collected during the raid are expected to determine whether the food items complied with prescribed food safety standards. Further action against the establishment will depend on the findings of the authorities.
