New Delhi: The Congress has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament to pursue constitutional changes that could impact the country's reservation system.
Speaking on the issue, Congress leaders claimed that the BJP's political efforts are focused on strengthening its position in Parliament to gain the numbers required for major constitutional amendments. The opposition party argued that such a majority could be used to introduce significant policy changes in the future.
Congress maintained that reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes must remain protected and said it would continue to oppose any move that could weaken these safeguards.
The BJP, however, has repeatedly dismissed similar allegations and stated that it remains committed to the Constitution and the existing reservation framework. Party leaders have previously accused the opposition of spreading misinformation on the issue.
The latest exchange has added to the ongoing political debate between the ruling party and the opposition ahead of future elections. Reservation policies continue to be a sensitive and important topic in national politics, often drawing strong reactions from political parties across the spectrum.
