Farmers Accuse Nizampet Revenue Officials of Demanding Bribes for Land Registration

<p>Farmers and landholders from villages in Nizampet mandal, Sangareddy district, staged a protest outside the Nizampet Tahsildar's office on Thursday, accusing revenue department officials of demanding bribes ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh for the registration of one acre of land.</p>
<p>The protesters raised slogans specifically against Tahsildar Naga Jyothi, alleging that she and other revenue officials had colluded with the Mee Seva centre operator at the mandal headquarters to systematically collect money from landholders. Farmers claimed the revenue office had effectively fixed a charge for processing each application, and that files were deliberately delayed unless the demanded amount was paid, pushing landholders into prolonged hardship.</p>
<p>Several of the protesters brought along their pending application files, some of which had been stuck with the department for a considerable period, to demonstrate the scale of the problem at the protest site.</p>
<p>The farmers said they were preparing to formally lodge a complaint with Sangareddy Collector Parteek Jain. They also urged the state government to order an independent inquiry into the functioning of the entire revenue office and the role of the Mee Seva operator at the mandal headquarters.</p>
