Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police have registered five criminal cases in a week against motorists allegedly using fake number plates on their vehicles to conceal their identities and evade traffic fines.
According to the traffic police, the cases were registered following complaints at Bandlaguda, Osmania University, Meerpet, Vanasthalipuram and Aswaraopet police stations.
As part of the crackdown, police seized 10 vehicles, including eight two-wheelers and two mini-trucks, for allegedly displaying fake or unauthorised registration plates.
Traffic police said using fake number plates can make it difficult to identify vehicles involved in traffic violations and other offences. Officials warned motorists against altering registration plates or using temporary stickers in place of legally approved plates.
“Only government-approved High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are legally permitted,” the traffic police said, adding that custom alterations, missing digits and unauthorised temporary stickers are illegal.
The traffic police have urged vehicle owners to ensure that their registration plates comply with the prescribed standards and are clearly visible to avoid legal action.
