Haryana and Rajasthan Sign Pact to Implement Long-Pending Yamuna Water Agreement

New Delhi: Haryana and Rajasthan have taken a major step towards resolving a long-pending water-sharing issue by signing an agreement to implement the Yamuna water allocation plan that has remained pending for over three decades.

The agreement is based on the 1994 Upper Yamuna Basin water-sharing arrangement, which outlines how water from the Yamuna River should be shared among participating states.

Under the new plan, Haryana will provide Rajasthan's allocated share of Yamuna water through a dedicated pipeline system during the period from July to October every year.

Officials said the agreement will support the Yamuna Water Project, which is expected to improve drinking water supply in several parts of Rajasthan, especially in the water-scarce districts of Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who described it as an important step towards better cooperation between the two states.

Authorities believe the project will strengthen water management and help meet the growing demand for drinking water in Rajasthan while ensuring the agreed water allocation is implemented in a structured manner.
