Hyderabad: Goshamahal Police arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) without a valid licence during the Gandhi Jayanti holiday closure.
The accused, identified as Arjun Singh of Begum Bazar, was allegedly caught selling liquor near Labour Adda during a police patrol.
According to police, Head Constable T. Rangaswamy noticed Singh during the patrol and suspected him of engaging in illegal liquor sales. Officers subsequently seized 20 liquor bottles with a total volume of 2.40 litres.
The seized stock included six 180 ml bottles of Good Day Prestige Whisky and 14 90 ml bottles of Officer's Choice whisky.
Police said their investigation indicated that Singh had purchased liquor at lower prices and was allegedly reselling it at higher prices because licensed wine shops were closed for the Gandhi Jayanti holiday.
During questioning, Singh allegedly admitted to taking advantage of the holiday closure to sell liquor at a markup.
Police registered a case against him and seized the liquor as part of the investigation.
