Hyderabad: A 34-year-old bike mechanic was arrested on Monday for allegedly snatching a gold chain from an elderly woman near Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple on Gaddiannaram Road in Saidabad.
The accused was identified as Mohd Ghouse Pasha alias Ghouse, a resident of Balapur. Police said he allegedly committed the offence on October 26 before escaping on a motorcycle.
Suspect Allegedly Used a False Pretext
According to police, the accused approached the woman and asked her to stop, claiming that the owner of a mixer repair shop wanted to speak with her.
Police alleged that he used the pretext to distract the woman before suddenly snatching her gold chain and fleeing from the spot on a motorcycle.
Investigators said financial difficulties, including debts and losses from cricket betting, were among the suspected reasons behind the offence.
Gold Chain and Motorcycle Recovered
Following a complaint, the Charminar Task Force and Saidabad police jointly conducted an investigation and arrested the accused.
Police recovered the stolen gold chain and a motorcycle allegedly used in the offence. The total value of the recovered property was estimated at Rs 3.5 lakh.
Further investigation is underway.
