Hyderabad: Traffic restrictions will continue across parts of Hyderabad on Saturday, September 26, as Ganesh idol immersions remain underway, with several idols still lined up along Tank Bund for immersion in Hussain Sagar.
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said the immersion procession had continued peacefully since Friday, with no untoward incidents reported. However, the large number of devotees gathering along major procession routes slowed vehicular movement and delayed the immersion process.
Lakhs of devotees, including families, gathered at Tank Bund, NTR Marg, Necklace Road, Liberty and Mozamjahi Market during the celebrations, according to the police.
Sajjanar thanked citizens for their cooperation and said police and traffic personnel were working round the clock to complete the immersion of the remaining idols as early as possible.
The procession is expected to continue until Saturday afternoon.
Roads facing restrictions
Regular vehicular traffic will not be permitted on Tank Bund, Necklace Road, NTR Marg, near the PV Statue and around Indira Gandhi Rotary due to the continued movement of Ganesh idols in these areas.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the main immersion routes and use alternative roads wherever possible.
The police commissioner also urged residents to postpone non-essential travel and avoid entering heavily congested areas to prevent getting caught in traffic.
Citizens have been asked to follow official traffic advisories for real-time information on diversions and road restrictions.
The traffic restrictions were initially imposed from 6 am on September 25 under Section 21(1)(b) of the Hyderabad City Police Act. Police said the measures could be extended depending on the progress of the immersion procession and prevailing traffic conditions.
