Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand has urged parents to remain alert about their children's online gaming habits, highlighting concerns over unauthorized in-game purchases and growing cyber-related complaints.
According to police officials, several complaints initially reported as online financial fraud were later found to involve children making purchases within gaming applications using debit cards, credit cards, or UPI accounts linked to family devices.
Authorities said many youngsters unknowingly spend money on virtual gaming items, premium upgrades, and special rewards without informing their parents. Such transactions can result in unexpected financial losses for families.
The advisory also highlighted the potential impact of excessive gaming on children's health and daily routines. Officials noted that long gaming hours may affect sleep, studies, social interactions, and overall well-being.
Parents have been encouraged to activate parental controls, disable automatic payment options, monitor screen time, and regularly review their children's online activities. Police also advised families to watch for changes in behavior that may indicate unhealthy gaming habits.
Hyderabad Police said awareness and responsible digital practices are essential to protecting children from financial risks and online safety concerns.
