Hyderabad: A youth died after coming under the wheels of a tusker truck near Metro Pillar No. 1167 at Khairatabad Junction during the Ganesh idol immersion procession on Friday.
According to preliminary information, the youth, whose identity had not been established immediately, was running across the road when he fell under the moving vehicle. He sustained multiple grievous injuries and died at the spot.
Khairatabad police reached the scene and launched an investigation into the incident. The truck driver was taken into custody for questioning.
Meanwhile, the victim's friends alleged that the youth was attempting to escape after police personnel deployed for crowd-control duties allegedly resorted to a lathi charge on the road.
Police have not confirmed the allegation. Officials are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident, including the events immediately preceding the youth coming under the truck.
The incident occurred amid heightened security and traffic regulation arrangements in Khairatabad for the final Ganesh immersion procession.
