INDIA Bloc Ramps Up Pressure on Centre, Seeks Amit Shah's Statement in Parliament
New Delhi: The INDIA bloc has intensified its confrontation with the Centre by insisting that Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally address Parliament over allegations surrounding police action against student protesters. The demand continued to disrupt proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha as Opposition members pressed for a direct response from the government.
Leaders of several Opposition parties argued that the Home Minister should clarify the government's position on the alleged use of force during demonstrations linked to the examination controversy. They maintained that a statement from Shah was necessary to ensure accountability and provide Parliament with an official explanation.
Throughout the parliamentary session, Opposition MPs raised slogans, protested inside the House and demanded that normal business be suspended until the Home Minister responded. The repeated protests led to multiple adjournments, delaying legislative proceedings and discussions on scheduled business.
The Centre rejected allegations that excessive force had been used against protesters. Government representatives maintained that no firing had taken place during the police action and asserted that only crowd-control measures, including tear gas, had been used where required. The government also criticised Opposition leaders for what it described as misleading claims regarding the incident.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition figures have accused the government of failing to adequately respond to public concerns arising from the protests. They have repeatedly questioned why Amit Shah has not personally addressed Parliament despite sustained demands from Opposition benches.
Senior Opposition leaders said Parliament should be allowed to discuss the issue in detail, arguing that students' concerns deserve a comprehensive debate rather than political confrontation. They urged the government to facilitate a discussion and permit the Home Minister to respond directly to questions raised by MPs.
The parliamentary standoff comes amid wider political disagreements over the handling of protests and education-related issues. While the Opposition has continued to seek accountability from the government, the ruling side has accused its rivals of disrupting parliamentary functioning instead of participating in legislative debates.
As the deadlock continued, both sides remained firm on their positions. The Opposition reiterated that it would continue raising the issue until Amit Shah addressed the House, while the government maintained that its version of events had already been placed on record through ministerial responses.
The confrontation reflects the increasingly tense atmosphere during the ongoing Parliament session, where several key legislative discussions have been overshadowed by political protests and procedural disruptions. Whether the impasse is resolved through a ministerial statement or further negotiations remains uncertain.
