A lift accident at an apartment building in Hyderabad's Meerpet area left eight people injured on Saturday afternoon. One of the victims is in critical condition, while the others are undergoing treatment.
The incident occurred at an apartment complex in Hanuman Nagar under the jurisdiction of Meerpet Police Station. According to police, the lift was coming down from the fourth floor when it suddenly malfunctioned and fell to the ground floor.
Initial findings indicate that the lift briefly stopped at the fourth floor before crashing. Residents immediately informed emergency services, and the injured occupants were rescued and taken to a nearby private hospital.
Police identified the injured as Tirunagari Narasimha Swamy (52), Padmini (51), Venkateshwarlu (75), T. Nirmala (69), P. Gopala Swamy (71), P. Renuka (65), T. Padma (60), and T. Shobha (64).
Doctors said one of the victims is in critical condition, while the remaining seven suffered multiple injuries and are receiving treatment.
Meerpet police have registered a case and started an investigation. Officials are examining whether a technical fault or poor maintenance caused the lift to collapse.
