Mancherial: The death toll in the Naspur road accident has risen to six after a 20-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karimnagar on Saturday.
Police identified the latest victim as Salluri Anusha, 20, of Gudipalli Venkatapur. She died during treatment around 10 am after being admitted to the hospital when her condition deteriorated on September 28.
Anusha was among seven people who suffered serious injuries after an auto-rickshaw collided with a lorry in Naspur on Monday morning.
Earlier, Ramtenki Divya Vani, 33, from Gudipelli Venkatapur, died while receiving treatment in Warangal on September 29. On September 28, Thatipelli Soniya, 20, of Dharmaraopet, and Thogari Sumalatha, 25, from Gudipet Venkatapur, also died during treatment in Mancherial.
Two women, Aggu Soundarya, 38, and Chintakuntla Laxmi, 38, were killed at the accident spot. The victims were reportedly saleswomen working at shopping malls in Mancherial town and were travelling to work when the accident occurred.
Police suspect that negligence by the auto-rickshaw driver may have caused the crash. According to CCTV footage, the driver allegedly lost control while attempting a sudden U-turn after a two-wheeler entered the road at a junction.
The auto-rickshaw then collided with a lorry approaching from the opposite direction, resulting in the fatal accident. Further investigation is underway.
