Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asked the Central government to take action to resolve the ongoing Tungabhadra river water issue.
During his meeting with Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil in New Delhi, the Chief Minister urged the Centre to ensure Telangana receives its rightful share of Tungabhadra river water. He said the issue should be resolved at the earliest in line with existing water-sharing rules.
Revanth Reddy explained that water from the Tungabhadra River is important for irrigation projects and the farming sector in Telangana. He said a fair distribution of water is necessary to meet the needs of farmers and support agricultural activities.
The Chief Minister also requested the Union government to take the necessary steps to settle the dispute and ensure that all states follow the approved water-sharing arrangements.
The Tungabhadra River is one of the major tributaries of the Krishna River and plays an important role in supplying water for agriculture in southern India. Telangana has been seeking the Centre's support to safeguard its share of the river water.
