Warangal: A 40-year-old woman sarpanch died on Thursday, September 17, after succumbing to injuries sustained in a road accident in Warangal district a day earlier.
The deceased was identified as Kasturi Vijayalakshmi. According to reports, she was undergoing treatment at a hospital after suffering serious injuries in the accident. Her husband, Ravinder, who was also injured, remains in critical condition.
The accident occurred on Wednesday night, September 16, when the couple was travelling on a two-wheeler from Lenkalapalli towards Narsampet.
Police said the couple was crossing a bridge between Itikalapalli and Narakkapet villages when an unidentified vehicle approaching from the opposite direction allegedly collided with their two-wheeler.
Both Vijayalakshmi and Ravinder fell from the bike and sustained grievous injuries. They were subsequently shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Vijayalakshmi later succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The Nallabelli police registered a case under Section 106(1) in connection with the death, citing rash and negligent driving. Police are investigating the accident and efforts are underway to identify and trace the vehicle involved in the collision.
