Hyderabad: BRS Legislature Party (BRSLP) deputy leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Wednesday accused the Congress government of converting the Telangana Assembly into a stage for political theatre, using it to sidestep serious discussions on issues affecting the state.

Speaking to mediapersons in the Assembly lobbies, Srinivas Yadav said the Congress government staged dramas outside the Assembly on the first day of the session and near BRS chief and Opposition leader K Chandrashekhar Rao's Erravelli residence on the second day, before suspending BRS MLAs for the remainder of the session.

He sharply questioned the selective nature of the suspensions, asking why a Congress MLA who allegedly wished for Chandrashekhar Rao's passing was not suspended, even as BRS members, including those who were not present inside the House, faced suspension.

Srinivas Yadav alleged the government was deliberately evading debate on issues such as 22-A lands and GO 97 on polytechnic education. He said BRS respected Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar as a person of goodwill and had not even fielded a candidate against him. He also took aim at what he called double standards, pointing out that BRS MLAs were stopped from wearing black T-shirts while members of the treasury benches, including Ministers, were allowed to display photographs and placards inside the House.

Former Minister G Jagadish Reddy echoed these concerns, saying the ruling Congress had no intention of permitting debate on the floor of the House and was therefore resorting to diversionary tactics. He said the Congress was unnecessarily projecting the alleged cleaning of the road outside Chandrashekhar Rao's Erravelli residence as a Dalit issue and placing blame on the BRS, despite no BRS legislator or leader being present at the scene.

Jagadish Reddy alleged that Congress leaders from multiple communities participated in the protest near Chandrashekhar Rao's residence and said the party was creating controversy by selectively framing it as a protest by Dalits.
