New Delhi: India has decided to send a high-level delegation to Iran to attend the funeral ceremonies of the country's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The delegation will include Bihar Governor Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.) and Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, who will represent the Government of India during the official ceremonies.
According to reports, the invitation to attend the funeral was extended by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the Prime Minister is scheduled to travel to East Asia and Oceania during the same period, making it difficult for him to attend.
The funeral ceremonies are expected to take place in different cities across Iran between July 4 and July 9. Several foreign leaders and senior officials from different countries are also expected to participate in the events.
India and Iran have maintained longstanding diplomatic relations, and the Indian delegation's visit reflects the importance both countries place on their bilateral ties.
Officials said the delegation will attend the funeral ceremonies on behalf of India and convey the country's condolences to the people and leadership of Iran.
