Hyderabad: A Cyberabad Police Sub-Inspector has been placed under suspension after a video circulating on social media allegedly showed his six-year-old granddaughter behind the wheel of a moving car on a public road. The incident has sparked widespread criticism, prompting swift action from the Telangana Police.
According to officials, Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) CV Anand ordered the immediate suspension of the officer after the footage came to light. Along with the suspension, a departmental inquiry has also been initiated to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The video reportedly shows the child driving the vehicle while the police officer is seated beside her. The incident is said to have taken place on the Gandhamguda–Bairagiguda road within the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits.
Authorities believe allowing a minor to operate a vehicle on a public road is a serious violation of road safety norms and could have endangered not only the child but also other road users.
Following the circulation of the video, police registered a case against the officer under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. Officials stated that the legal process will continue alongside the departmental investigation.
Senior police officials emphasized that law enforcement personnel are expected to uphold the law and set an example for the public. Any actions that compromise public safety or violate legal provisions will be dealt with firmly, regardless of an individual's position within the department.
